A handcrafted Chinese straw cabin river junk model — woven straw roof, bamboo poles, natural wood hull, display-ready.

Our craftsmen grew up on an island where boats like this were still in use — they did not reconstruct this form from drawings, they remembered it. Every plank shaped by hand, the straw cabin roof woven and fitted individually, in our Zhoushan workshop, founded in 1980.

For thousands of years, boats like this moved through the reed-lined waterways of the Yangtze Delta — carrying the daily catch that fed the cities of the most populous civilisation on earth. The straw-thatched cabin sheltered the fisherman through rain and sun; the bamboo poles served as mast, boom, and push-pole depending on the need. Nothing on this boat was decorative. Everything had a function.
