HISTORY & STORY

The coastal sloop — a single-masted sailing vessel with a fore-and-aft rig — was the workhorse of coastal trade and fishing from the 17th century onwards. Nimble, efficient, and easy to handle with a small crew, the sloop dominated the harbours of New England, the British Isles, and the Caribbean for over two centuries.
