Histoire et récit

The Drakkar — or dragon ship — was the most feared vessel of the Viking Age, prowling the coasts of Europe from the 8th to the 11th century. Long, narrow, and shallow-drafted, these longships could navigate open ocean and river alike, carrying Norse warriors on raids, trading voyages, and voyages of exploration that reached as far as North America.

Named for the fearsome dragon or serpent prow that adorned their bows, Drakkars were engineering marvels of their time — built from overlapping planks of oak using the clinker technique, powered by both oar and sail, and crewed by some of history's most formidable seafarers. Their silhouette, low on the water with a single square sail billowing above, became one of the most iconic images of the medieval world.

This handcrafted model faithfully recreates the spirit of the Drakkar: dark-stained wood, rows of oars, painted round shields, and a bold striped sail — a timeless tribute to the age of the Vikings.
