A working boat, salt-weathered and well-used — a vintage coastal trawler, captured in extraordinary detail.

A handcrafted wooden ship model of a classic vintage coastal trawler, featuring a weathered light blue and deep red hull, white superstructure with painted windows, red exhaust stack, outrigger boom with rigging, a crab trap on deck, life rings, cleats, and anchor, all mounted on a natural wood display cradle. The intentionally distressed paintwork gives this model an authentic, well-used character that sets it apart from polished showroom pieces. Arrives fully assembled and display-ready — no assembly required. Made in our Zhoushan workshop, founded in 1980.

History & Story

The coastal trawler is the workhorse of inshore commercial fishing — a vessel designed not for speed or elegance, but for endurance, reliability, and the relentless demands of working the sea day after day. From the lobster boats of Maine to the crab trawlers of the Pacific Northwest, from the fishing cutters of Cornwall to the trawlers of Brittany, the coastal fishing vessel has taken countless regional forms while remaining essentially the same: a strong, practical hull, a reliable engine, and enough deck space to haul, sort, and ice a day’s catch.

The style of vessel represented in this model — with its raised wheelhouse, outrigger boom, exhaust stack, and crab trap on deck — is characteristic of the small commercial trawlers and crabbers that worked the American Pacific and Atlantic coasts through the mid-20th century. These were boats built for hard use, painted and repainted season after season until the layers of colour told the story of years at sea.

The weathered paintwork of this model — the chalky blue hull, the worn red below the waterline — deliberately captures that aged, salt-weathered quality. It is not a pristine showpiece but a portrait of a working boat in its element. Handcrafted in Ocean Relic Studio’s Zhoushan workshop, where artisans have been building maritime heritage into lasting objects since 1980.
