History & Story

The wooden coastal fishing boat is one of the oldest and most universal vessel types in human history. From the North Sea to the Mediterranean, from the coasts of China to the harbours of New England, small wooden fishing craft have worked the inshore waters for thousands of years — each shaped by the conditions of their home sea, the traditions of their builders, and the needs of the fishermen who depended on them.

The vintage style represented in this model — with its dark-painted hull, twin sails, sturdy masts, and anchor chain — evokes the working fishing boats of the late 19th and early 20th century, when sail was still the primary means of propulsion for inshore fishing vessels around the world. These were boats built by hand from local timber, repaired season after season, and passed down through generations of fishing families.

This model captures that spirit of working maritime heritage — the dark hull weathered by salt and sun, the white sails full of wind, the anchor chain coiled and ready. Handcrafted in Ocean Relic Studio’s Zhoushan workshop, where artisans have been building maritime heritage into lasting objects since 1980.
