On the night of 14 April 1912, the RMS Titanic — the largest and most luxurious ocean liner ever built — struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank in under three hours, taking more than 1,500 lives with her. It was one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history, and the story of the Titanic has never stopped captivating the world.

Built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast and operated by the White Star Line, the Titanic was on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City when she met her fate. She was 269 metres long, displaced 52,310 tonnes, and was considered virtually unsinkable — a symbol of the confidence and ambition of the Edwardian age.

The ship-in-a-bottle tradition dates back to the 19th century, when sailors and craftsmen began creating these impossible-looking objects as gifts, curiosities, and demonstrations of patience and skill.
