A wooden model kit of the Nikonov Submarine — the world’s first submarine, a barrel-shaped marvel of 18th-century Russian ingenuity, built by your own hands from linden and cherry wood.

This kit recreates that legendary vessel in meticulous detail: the curved barrel hull built from individually planked linden wood staves, the iron-effect banding, the deck hatch and conning structure, the anchor rigging, and the wooden cradle stand — all assembled by your own hands from precision laser-cut parts.

⚠️ This is a model kit requiring assembly — not a finished model. Tools required: hobby knife, tweezers, wood glue, sandpaper (not included).

History & Story

In 1718, Russian inventor Yefim Nikonov presented Tsar Peter the Great with a revolutionary idea: a vessel that could travel beneath the waves and attack enemy ships unseen. The result was the world’s first submarine — a remarkable barrel-shaped craft of wooden staves and iron hoops, fitted with a hatch, viewing ports, and a primitive air supply.

Though never deployed in battle, the Nikonov submarine stands as one of the most audacious engineering concepts of the pre-industrial age — a testament to the ingenuity of early Russian naval thinking.
