Four times larger than the original model, rendered in traditional mortise-and-tenon craft — available to build yourself or display straight from the box.

The Nanhu Red Boat · Grand Edition recreates the iconic vessel of Jiaxing at 38.4 cm finished length — four times the volume of the standard model. Available in two versions: the Assembly Kit, built through traditional mortise-and-tenon (榫卯) joinery with no glue required, or the Ready-Made edition, hand-finished and display-ready straight from the box. Both versions feature the full architectural detail of the cabin, hull carvings, and golden decorative banding.

🔧 Assembly Kit version — assembly, painting, and rigging required. Tools, adhesives, and paints are not included and must be sourced separately. Ready-Made version requires no assembly.

⚠️ Kit skill level: Intermediate. Results will vary based on skill, tools, and finishing choices. Please review the instruction manual before beginning assembly.

History & Story

The Nanhu Red Boat is one of the most symbolically significant vessels in modern Chinese history. In July 1921, delegates of the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party relocated from Shanghai to a rented pleasure boat on South Lake (Nanhu) in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, where the congress concluded and the party was formally established.

This Grand Edition kit honours that history through the lens of mortise-and-tenon (榫卯) joinery — a woodworking tradition that dates back over 7,000 years in China, seen in ancient structures from the Hemudu culture through the great palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties. To assemble this kit is to engage directly with that tradition: each joint is designed to lock without adhesive, relying instead on geometry, grain, and the accumulated wisdom of generations of craftsmen.
