History & Story

Le Requin — “The Shark” — was a celebrated French privateer xebec of the 18th century, operating in the Mediterranean under letters of marque and renowned for her speed, agility, and ferocity. Built low in the water with a distinctive three-masted lateen-rigged profile, Le Requin could outrun nearly any adversary and was the terror of merchant shipping from Marseille to Malta.

The xebec was the quintessential Mediterranean raider: swift, manoeuvrable, and heavily armed for her size. Le Requin’s legend has made her one of the most sought-after subjects in the history of ship modelling, and this full-rib solid wood kit captures every detail of her original construction with museum-level fidelity.
