In the poetry and painting of imperial China, the image of a woman on a river boat carried layers of meaning — longing, elegance, the passage of time, and the beauty of a life lived close to water. From the odes of the Han Dynasty to the ci poetry of the Song, the river lady became one of the most enduring figures in Chinese literary and artistic tradition.

The gesture of raising a cup — to the moon, to a departing friend, to the river itself — was a common motif in Tang and Song poetry, associated with the great poets Li Bai and Su Shi, who both wrote of drinking on the water as a way of communing with the infinite. In this small sculpture, that gesture is frozen in resin: a moment of quiet celebration, afloat on a misty river.

Handcrafted in Ocean Relic Studio’s Zhoushan workshop, where artisans have been shaping maritime heritage into lasting objects since 1980.
