One of the most celebrated American clipper schooners of the 19th century — the Harvey at 1:96 scale in basswood, cherry wood, and teak, with full fabric sails and an intricate rope rigging system.

This 1:96 scale kit builds the Harvey to a finished size of 47 cm L × 15.5 cm W × 33.4 cm H. The three-masted topsail schooner rig — with its large fore-and-aft sails supplemented by square topsails on the foremast — makes for one of the most visually dramatic rigging builds in the wooden ship modelling tradition. The hull uses basswood for the structural frames, cherry wood for the warm reddish outer planking, and teak for the deck — three woods of distinct colour and grain that give the finished model exceptional visual depth. Harvey was an American pilot schooner and racing vessel built in Baltimore in 1847 — a product of the celebrated Baltimore clipper tradition that produced some of the fastest sailing vessels of the 19th century. Designed for speed above all other considerations, her hull was sharp and narrow, her rig enormous relative to her displacement, and her performance under sail legendary among the pilots and racing enthusiasts of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Baltimore clipper type — characterised by raking masts, a sharp entry, a clean run aft, and a generous fore-and-aft rig — was developed in the early 19th century for speed-critical roles: pilot vessels, privateers, and later the slave trade and opium trade, where speed meant survival. The Harvey represents this tradition at its sporting best — a vessel built for the pure pleasure of sailing fast.
