The pride of the Beiyang Fleet, rendered in miniature resin with astonishing precision — small enough to rest on a fingertip, large enough to carry 140 years of history.

This ultra-detailed miniature resin model recreates the Dingyuan (定远舰), the formidable German-built ironclad that served as flagship of the Qing dynasty’s Beiyang Fleet. Gold-bronze hull, red waterline stripe, twin masts with rigging, and deck fittings rendered at extraordinary scale — every structural element faithfully reproduced in hand-finished resin, small enough to hold between two fingers. A piece for serious collectors who appreciate precision craftsmanship and Chinese naval history in equal measure.

HISTORY & STORY

The Dingyuan (定远) was an 7,335-ton ironclad battleship built by AG Weser in Bremen, Germany, and commissioned into the Qing dynasty's Beiyang Fleet in 1885. Named for the aspiration to "pacify the distant seas," she was the most powerful warship in East Asia at the time of her commissioning, and her arrival in Japanese ports in 1891 sent a decisive political message across the region.

At the Battle of the Yalu River in September 1894, during the First Sino-Japanese War, the Dingyuan fought under Admiral Ding Ruchang against the Japanese Combined Fleet. Though heavily damaged, she survived the battle. She was finally destroyed at Weihaiwei in February 1895 to prevent capture — her commander choosing scuttling over surrender. The Dingyuan remains a defining symbol of China's late-Qing naval ambition and the painful modernisation of the Chinese state.
