History & Story

The Bluenose II is the replica of the original Bluenose — Canada’s most celebrated sailing vessel, launched in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1921 and undefeated in the International Fishermen’s Trophy for seventeen years. The replica was built in 1963 in the same shipyard, using the same plans, and serves as Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador to the world.

The Bluenose is commemorated on the Canadian dime — a symbol of maritime excellence, national pride, and the enduring spirit of the North Atlantic fishing tradition.
