HISTORY & STORY

The Belem is France’s oldest and most celebrated tall ship — a three-masted barque launched in 1896 in Nantes, originally built to carry cocoa from Brazil. She is the last surviving French merchant sailing vessel of the 19th century.

Today she sails as a living monument to France’s maritime heritage — a vessel that has crossed the Atlantic, carried the Olympic flame, and endured over a century of history to remain afloat and under sail.
