American Shrimp Boat Wooden Ship Model – Handcrafted Coastal Fishing Vessel (Crimson)

The American Gulf Coast shrimp boat is one of the most recognisable working vessels in the United States — a symbol of the coastal fishing communities that have lined the shores of the Gulf of Mexico from Texas to Florida for generations. With their characteristic outrigger booms, trawl nets, and sturdy wooden hulls, these boats have defined the maritime character of towns like Biloxi, Morgan City, and Apalachicola since the late 19th century.

Shrimping on the Gulf Coast grew rapidly in the early 20th century, driven by advances in refrigeration and ice-packing technology that allowed boats to stay at sea for longer and bring their catch to markets further inland. At the industry’s peak in the mid-20th century, thousands of shrimp boats worked the Gulf, their outriggers spread wide, dragging trawl nets across the shallow sandy bottom in search of brown, white, and pink shrimp.

This model captures the working spirit of those boats — the crimson hull vivid against the Gulf water, metal wire nets hanging from the outriggers, the wheelhouse small and practical. It is a tribute to the Gulf Coast fishing families whose labour and heritage have shaped one of America’s most distinctive maritime cultures. Handcrafted in Ocean Relic Studio’s Zhoushan workshop, where artisans have been building maritime heritage into lasting objects since 1980.
