HISTORY & STORY

The USS Constitution is the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat, launched in 1797 in Boston, Massachusetts. Nicknamed Old Ironsides after cannonballs reportedly bounced off her thick oak hull during the War of 1812, she remains a proud symbol of American naval heritage.

She is berthed today at the Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston — still in commission, still flying the Stars and Stripes, a living monument to the birth of the United States Navy.
