The Passat was one of the last great Flying P-Liners — the legendary fleet of four-masted barques built by the Hamburg shipping company F. Laeisz, all named with the letter P. Launched in 1911, she sailed the Cape Horn route carrying nitrate from Chile to Europe, one of the most demanding ocean passages in the world.

Today she is preserved as a museum ship in Lübeck, Germany — one of the last surviving square-rigged sailing ships of the commercial age, a monument to the era when sail still competed with steam.
