The Chinese junk is one of the most capable sailing vessels ever designed — its battened lug sails adjustable for wind from almost any direction, its compartmentalized hull divided by internal bulkheads centuries before European shipbuilding adopted the same technology. It sailed the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea long before European explorers reached those waters.

This model captures the ocean-going junk at its most recognizable: deep hull, layered wooden planking, traditional battened sails, carved bow and stern — every plank shaped individually, every sail faithfully reproduced by hand in our Zhoushan workshop.
