This is not a souvenir. It is a hand-lacquered Chinese trading junk model made to order in the Ocean Relic Studio workshop in Zhoushan, Zhejiang.

The Chinese trading junk was the workhorse of maritime commerce across the South China Sea and beyond. Its bold red-lacquered hull — a color associated with fortune and protection — made it immediately recognizable in port. The high stern gave the helmsman command over the deck; the three-mast battened rig allowed a small crew to handle the vessel in open-sea conditions. These ships carried silk, porcelain, and spices across routes that connected China to Southeast Asia, India, and the Arabian Peninsula for centuries.

This model captures the trading junk at its most vivid: the red and black lacquered hull with green accent stripe, the deep red battened sails, the carved wave display base. The anchor, the deck fittings, the rigging — each element is made and assembled by hand in our Zhoushan workshop.

This model is made in our Zhoushan workshop, founded in 1980 by the father of our master craftsman. Our craftsmen grew up on an island where wooden boats were still built by hand. They did not learn this form only from books. They inherited it from a living maritime environment.
